This seminar has been organized jointly by WODC, HIIL, Vide, the Economics Department of the University of Utrecht and the Faculty of Law of the University of Maestricht.
Professor Posner is visiting the Netherlands on the occasion of the official launch of The Hague Institute for the Internationalization of Law (HIIL) on September 13, 2005, during which he will be presenting one of the keynote speeches. HIIL is an international research institute whose objective is to study the internationalization of law in a world where national borders in the traditional sense are eroding and where the interconnectedness of societies across state borders is becoming a fact of life.
Eric Posner is co-author with Jack Goldsmith of The Limits of International Law (Oxford, 2005), and of Law and Social Norms (Harvard, 2000). He is also editor of the Chicago Lectures in Law and Economics and an editor of the Journal of Legal Studies. He has published articles on bankruptcy law, contract law, international law, cost-benefit analysis, constitutional law, and administrative law, and has taught courses on international law, foreign relations law, contracts, employment law, bankruptcy law, secured transactions, and game theory and the law.
His current research focuses on international law, including the laws of war, international adjudication, and war crimes trials. He is a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School.
